Clear pathways of snow and ice

Provide snow-cleared, off street parking to make things easier for visitors. Open paths from the street to the sidewalk so visitors don’t have to climb over snowdrifts. Be sure to scrape the walk to clear away ice. Sprinkle a layer of sand or salt to ensure stable footing.

Keep entryways clean

Put a rubber mat by the front door or a place to store wet umbrellas or shoes. Remove clutter from your entry-way ex: extra shoes, coats, etc. Keep family coats in hidden in a closet or trunk. A Swiffer can be an easy way to quickly freshen up entry floors between showings.

[av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=”]

Heat the house a degree or two warmer than usual. Keep the temperature inside comfortable and give the buyer more reason to stay. Light a crackling fire, if you have a gas fireplace or clean-burning wood stove, if your wood burning home leaves a smoky smell, consider holding off.

Give your home a warm touch

Throw blankets across the arms of your sofa or arm chairs. Place a quilt at the foot of the bed or an area rug in warm colors. Turn your bathroom into a spa by hanging robes, rolling up washcloths and towels, and setting up a grouping of soaps and lotions. Set up a breakfast tray in the bedroom containing a coffee cup, napkin, and a news paper. Turn on soft music, jazz, classical or something soothing. Show how outdoor rooms can be used in the cold. If you have a covered porch or a sunroom, be sure to keep the area furnished, turn on the lights and build a fire. Drape a thick blanket over the furniture.
